Robert Wurst, loehe@sigecom.net To: Confessional Lutherans in Missionary Boldness, CLiMB@CAT41.org Dear Friends and Supporters of the Britain Mission Society, Peace to you in the name of our dear Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. There is much happening with the Britain Mission Society of late. We have been very busy with a big project and so we thought that you might be interested in our ongoing work. First, a warm and heartfelt thank you to all of you who have offered your prayers and gifts on behalf of the Society. Certainly, God has heard those prayers (as He promises) and showered His gifts upon us. The congregations in Britain are encouraged by your kindness and generosity. This is a much needed gift for them. To know that other Christians love them, pray for them, and sacrifice themselves for them, even though they have never met them, is an encouragement and precious thing indeed. So, again, thank you from the BMS for your zeal and sacrifice on behalf of our British brethren. As most of you know, the Britain Mission Society was formed when we learned of the plight of our fellow Lutherans in the UK. Through God's grace, we have disbursed about $4,000 this year in direct aid to several Evangelical Lutheran Church in England (ELCE) congregations. This has enabled them to make much needed repairs to their buildings after acts of vandalism, to upgrade the lighting in one congregation, and to purchase other things they need for their earthly lives. Your gifts have helped to fund Gospel mailings in Scotland where there is but one Lutheran pastor for the entire country. Your gifts have also helped purchase Sunday School materials. In short, God has used your monies to ease the burden of our Lutheran brothers and sisters in the UK, has helped to lift their spirits, and given them some renewed strength for the preaching of God's Word. The Society is also working on a bigger project. Just this week, we purchased $4,000 of orthodox Lutheran books so that the congregations have solid confessional Lutheran things to read and study. A big thank you goes out to Repristination Press and Ballast Press for their gracious dealings with the Society! Now, each congregation (and the library in Westfield House) in the ELCE will receive books by John Gerhard, Wilhelm Loehe, Quenstedt, and more. We pray that God will use these books by our fathers to deepen our brethren's hunger and thirst for God's holy things. We will make the shipment next week for distribution in October. Speaking of October, I have been asked to travel to Britain to visit our fellow Lutherans and so am making plans to go from 6-26 October. I hope to visit with each pastor and congregation to encourage them and to find out how we might help them further. Please pray that all goes well in my travels and that our Lord would provide even more richly for His Church. We desire to purchase still more books for our fellow Lutherans. We want to purchase replacement hymnals, Small Catechisms, Proper Distinction between the Law and the Gospel, and other basic writings of Christ's Church. Would you consider a gift of $10, 50, or $100 to the BMS? If you have more than that, I will be bold and ask you to remember the Britain Mission Society in your disbursements. We can most certainly do more work with it. If you, or your congregation, can help with this work, please send your offering to: Britain Mission Society Our Saviour Lutheran Church 6501 E. Madison Ave. Evansville, IN 47715 Because Our Saviour administers this work, your gift is tax deductible. Please prayerfully consider our bold request. If you can't help financially right now, please remember the church in the UK in your prayers and in the Prayer of the Church. Thanks again for your prayers and help. The pastors and congregations of the ELCE have been much encouraged by your acts of charity and love. It is our contention that those who truly hold to the ~Book of Concord~ as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
