LUTHERAN HERITAGE FOUNDATION MISSION NEWS

LHF Announces Building Plans

The Lutheran Heritage Foundation recently unveiled plans for the construction of its world headquarters in Macomb, MI. A special grant enabled the purchase of four acres of land in a densely Lutheran populated area 23 miles north of Detroit. A Board appointed Building Committee has been working for six months to oversee the construction effort. Rev. William Brege, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Ossian, IN, serves as Chairman of the four member Building Committee. Rev. Brege was a building contractor prior to entering the Holy Ministry and has a strong background in construction work. Architectural Designs, Inc., Ft. Wayne, IN, has been selected as the architect for the project. Groundbreaking is scheduled for the spring of 2000 with dedication in the fall of 2000.

For five years the LHF operated out of the basement of the home of founding Executive Director, Rev. Robert Rahn, at no cost to the organization. Continued growth and expansion necessitated a move to leased office space two years ago. "The proposed 11,000 square foot building will meet the needs of the organization for many years to come," stated Richard Hallgren, LHF Board President. "We also look forward to honoring the memory of our Founding Board Chairman, Dr. Robert Preus, by designating the Board Room to carry his name," Mr. Hallgren added.

"New technology for a new millennium is a goal for the LHF", according to the Rev. John Fehrmann, Director of Mission Advancement. "The LHF is blessed with the interest of a special donor who is providing much of the computer equipment and programming that will give the LHF a new state of the art office. The new headquarters will eventually house a worldwide computer network that will enable our team of over 150 translators, reviewers, and editors across 35 regions of the world to work on translation projects over the Internet. Completed works will be available on-line so interested readers from Siberia to Africa can download translated materials. We are grateful to God for this provision. The facility will also house a physical library that will contain multiple copies of all the books that the LHF has published in order to provide for the regular requests that are received for these valuable resources," Rev. Fehrmann added.

A $1.2 million Building For Tomorrow Today capital campaign has also been launched to generate support for the construction project. As in all church related building projects, the goal must be realized from funds that are over and above regular contributions to the mission program of the organization. Initial gifts for the project are expected to reach over $500,000.00 by the end of 1999 and it is anticipated that the building will be debt free by the time of dedication.

The LHF Board has a goal to generate $400,000.00 as their commitment to the project. A $50,000.00 gift from an Honorary Board Member has challenged the current Board to double the amount. A challenge grant is matching all gifts designated for the Building For Tomorrow Today campaign on a dollar for dollar basis. Another important commitment came from a local building supply company which has offered to provide building materials at 1% above actual cost with free delivery to the work site. "These are all indicators that the LHF will no longer be the best kept secret in Lutheranism, but have a new visibility and viability," Rev. Rahn stated.

In order to help attain the campaign goal, paving bricks are being sold for $200.00 each. The bricks can be inscribed with the name of the donor or with the names of individuals recognized by memorial or tribute gifts. The bricks will form a walkway in a special landscaped area on the property. "I am encouraging individuals, groups, and agencies to purchase a paving brick in honor of a Pastor or church worker. Memorializing or honoring loved ones is also encouraged," said Mrs. Ilona Kuchta, who is heading the Building For Tomorrow Today campaign efforts.

To support the building campaign efforts please make checks payable to "LHF Building Fund" and mail to P.O. Box 46, Sterling Heights, MI 48311. To request a brochure featuring the paving brick funding avenue and order form please call 1-800-554-0723. The LHF is involved in worldwide Lutheran translation projects covering 34 regions of the world and 26 languages.

The CLIMB e-letter brings you unedited, uncut reports directly from the mission field, whether in South America, Africa, Europe, inner-city, rural, or collegiate America, or military installations and battle sites around the world. It is our contention that those who truly hold to the ~Book of Concord~ as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
