From: "Rev. Robert L. Rahn (by way of Rev. Eric J. Stefanski, )" To: Subject: CLIMB: LHF Africa Region Vice President Visits U.S. Date: Friday, November 02, 2001 12:54 PM For Immediate Release by Dr. Robert L. Rahn LHF Executive Director +++LHF African Region Vice President Visits U.S.+++ Dr. Anssi Simojoki, LHF V.P. Africa Region, visited several U.S. centers during a four week speaking tour in April and May that included presentations in Illinois, Minnesota, Texas, and Michigan. Dr. Simojoki also reported to the LHF Board of Directors on his African activities, and provided the latest news from Sudan. In response to many questions about the current persecution of Christians in Sudan, Simojoki cautioned that this is a complex situation. He suggested that the best way to deal with the question was to encourage President Bush to become involved as a broker for peace. Dr. Simojoki brought with him requests from the Sudanese government and from the leaders of the Sudanese People's Liberation Army (SPLA) for help. Both sides are indicating a desire for peace. He also pointed out the discrepancy in American news media in regards to few reports on the Sudan situation as compared, for instance, to the daily reports we get from Israel as if human lives in Africa are less important than elsewhere. For more information you can visit www.lhfmissions.org to read an article titled: CHRISTIAN MISSION, WAR AND POLITICS IN THE SUDAN. The link can be found on the home page directly below the guestbook. Dr. Simojoki also spoke of the LHF service to 2.8 million Lutherans in Kenya and Tanzania. He pointed out that the Ev. Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT) is 150 years old and only recently received copies of Luther's SMALL CATECHISM, AUGSBURG CONFESSION, THE FREEDOM OF A CHRISTIAN, in the Swahili language. A new printing of the CATECHISM will bring the number printed to 200,000. The LHF is the only group actively publishing materials in Kenya and Tanzania. One Pastor asked after receiving the books published: "Why did we have to wait 150 years?" "The LHF is filling a need in a significant way," Dr. Simojoki stated. ENGLISH CATECHISMS NEEDED IN AFRICA English is being taught in LHF Lutheran centers in Sudan, Kenya, and Tanzania and Luther's SMALL CATECHISM is being used as the reading text. The LHF is collecting used editions and encouraging support to purchase new copies. In the Sudan Muslims have been converted because of the reading course. Contact LHF at 1-800-554-0723 or send your copies to the LHF at 36380 Garfield Rd Suite 3, Clinton Township, MI 48035. + + + Confessional Lutherans in Missionary Boldness + + + The CLIMB e-letter brings you unedited, uncut reports directly from the mission field, whether in South America, Africa, Europe, inner-city, rural, or collegiate America, or military installations and battle sites around the world. It is our contention that those who truly hold to the ~Book of Concord~ as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
