Sent: 4/13/45 11:47 PM Received: 6/4/00 11:53 PM From: Eric Stefanski, revski@heart.net To: Confessional Lutherans in Missionary Boldness, CLiMB@CAT41.org [The content herefollowing was forwarded to us from the Rev. Robin D. Fish, cuda@lakepc.com, on 6/4/00. EJG] I have a request for prayers from [Rev. John Fehrmann of LHF] -- he specifically asked that I send this to CAT 41. John and Prof. Dan Gard and their company was in Haiti working on setting up the work there for LHF. They were robbed at gunpoint by the local bandits. The bandits took their vehicle and all of the possessions from everyone in the party at gunpoint with automatic and/or semi automatic weapons--John excepted. He was left with his wallet. Somehow they managed to miss him in the robbery. Now they are in Haiti without money, without papers, without transportation. They managed to get to the Embassy by phone (and the Embassy came and got them). They have contacted Dr. Gard's wife, and they are waiting for identification and such so that they can get Dan out of the country. It requires trips back and forth to the airport, which are dangerous. They are seeking our prayers for their safety and success. The police did see the truck at one point, and pursued it. The bandits fired on the police and the police returned fire. One bandit was hit and its in critical condition. That episode confirmed their fears that if they had offered any resistance at the time of the robbery, we would be planning funerals at this time. Be praying for our brothers in the mission field -- and spread the word and seek prayers for these men--and for the mission of LHF throughout the world. It isn't just a safe junket and a socially pleasing trip these guys go on. It is real life (and death) and dangerous. May God preserve them and bless their work. Cuda--aka Robin Fish Pastor, Peace Lutheran Church, Greenview, MO "Now may the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you with every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen." It is our contention that those who truly hold to the ~Book of Concord~ as the pure exposition of Holy Scripture and the true confession of the Christian faith are also the most zealous supporters of the preaching of the Gospel in every corner of the world and, as such, ought to be kept thoroughly informed of how those endeavors are faring and shown how they may be rightly carried out without the destruction of orthodox doctrine and practice that some within the pale of Lutheranism now advocate.
