We don't usually have this kind of problem. It shows the difficulties of planting a church body in the midst of heathenism. If you can help provide the miracle of cash that will be changed into wine, you can send your gift to the Lutheran Heritage Foundation, PO Box 46, STerling Heights, MI 48311. -----Original Message----- From: Andrew Mbugo Elisa [ Sent: Monday, September 10, 2001 12:55 PM To: rrahn@lhfmissions.org Cc: preachtheword1@msn.com Subject: SPECIAL NEEDS FOR ELCS Dear Rev. Dr. Rahn, Greetings from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Sudan. I have a special request to share with you hoping to get some response by the grace of God. Our CHurch is in need of Altar wine. At yesterday's service, we gave the remaining bottle and right now we are left with half a bottle that will help at the coming Sunday service scheduled for Jebel Aulia september 16th, 2001. We urgently need wine for Holy Communion service. Of course we can not buy wine within the Sudan, it is always brought into Sudan from Kenya or other countries in a more illegal way. We are planning to order 6 cartons that can take us for eight to ten months with all these many congregations. Each carton will cost about $500.00 of twelve bottles each. Six cartons will give a total of about 72 bottles. It is extremely expensive in the Sudan because of the Islamic Sharia Laws. We have been buying in small quantities and right now the government has tight all doors not allowing wine to enter the country. The only means is to use a diplomatic missions to purchase and deliver for our Church. I would like to ask for help so that our important office of the sacrament should not stop since we do make confirmations and receiving new members throughout the months. I am sorry for always being a burden to you, but does pray that one day God will bless you as you continue to serve ELCS. I will likewise appreciate if such help can be treated as urgent to enable ELCS acquire wine for its mission.
